Twitter + Robots

Friday, July 17th, 2009

What do you get when you combine Twitter with a Robot?  Perhaps the most unique use of social networking that I have ever come across.

chalkbot1

It’s the Nike LIVESTRONG Chalkbot and here’s how it works:

Tweet a 40 character message of hope and inspiration and the “Chalkbot” will  print your message on the streets of the Tour de France.

Why?

For those not familiar with the Tour, historically cycling fans write messages and cyclists’ names in chalk on the roads, messages that are seen by race video cameras on helicopters and motorcycles. This is an unprecedented opportunity for Marketeers.

This year marks  the return of Lance Armstrong, the seven-time winner of the event — world wide viewership  of the event is expected to dramatically improve over last years viewership results.

The chalkbot was “developed in partnership with DeepLocal and StandardRobot, the Chalkbot in appearance is similar to an ink jet printer, except at a much larger scale. The trailer mounted device is fully self-contained and pneumatically spray out either messages or graphics.” The device made it’s debut at the 2nd Stage of 2009 Tour de France on July 5th.

Thirtysomething’s Discover Facebook

Wednesday, October 15th, 2008

Back in the day there was a TV show called “Thirtysomething“. At the time, I thought that was amusing because 30 was so old. Being a Thirtysomething now, I don’t find that quite so funny.

Facebook - Jason PiaseckiAt any rate, I’ve noticed an amazing trend with my brethren in their 30’s. We all seem to have just found Facebook. Basically, we now know what every self-respecting 15 year old does – Facebook is cool or da’ bomb or tight or whatever the kids are saying nowadays.

I don’t have a lot of time to “play around ” on the Internet nowadays. So when I get online to have fun it has to be for something worthwhile. Facebook scratches that itch for me. I find it to be:

  • Fun
  • Informative
  • Entertaining
  • Addictive
  • A great way to connect
  • Relevant to my business

I have a challenge to my fellow Gen X-ers and our senior counterparts who have not yet discovered Facebook, sign up today. Once you’re there, pop over to my page and add me as your friend (once you figure out what a “friend” is) and become a fan of Qonverge.
